Ingredient Lists Matter
PSA: Don’t be a victim of pretty packaging! Everything you need to know about a product is listed on the back of the bottle in tiny font…our little friend: The ingredients list.
Now, what’s really in your products? Check out the ingredients list and see for yourself – ingredients are listed in descending order by weight, meaning that the ones that make-up the bulk of your product are listed at the very top. Synthetic ingredients usually have more complex, chemical names than clean, natural ingredients, which are often written in Latin.
Also, beware of “umbrella terms,” like “fragrance” or “parfum.” Companies like to use these terms to cover-up the (on average) 14 secret chemicals hidden under the surface. These chemicals can have negative side effects, including hormone disruption, allergic reactions, and respiratory irritations that can trigger asthma attacks and aggravate sinus conditions. Opt for fragrance-free options if you are experiencing any of these issues – it may be tied to your haircare!
Most importantly, however, do you research! Take out Google, download helpful apps (our faves are: Switch Natural, Think Dirty, EWG database), or lean on your Clean Beauty Boutique stylist for their recommendations.
